Romania’s largest DIY retailer, Dedeman, is crossing the border into Moldova. The decision was confirmed after company leaders met with Prime Minister Dorin Recean and other senior officials in Chișinău.
For us, entering the Republic of Moldova is not just a business move, but the fulfillment of a long-standing wish. Given that Dedeman was founded in Bacău, just 150 kilometers from the border, this expansion has always felt like a natural step
Dragoș Pavăl, Dedeman’s president
The Moldova expansion marks Dedeman’s second major international move. In 2023, the Pavăl Holding group made its first overseas investments in the tourism sector. In 2025, it expanded by acquiring the Greek DIY chain Praktiker Hellas.
Back home, Dedeman remains a dominant force in Romanian retail, with a network of 64 stores nationwide. The company plans to open its 65th store in Mediaș by the end of 2025, followed by a new location in Giurgiu in 2026, completing its presence across all of Romania’s counties.
