BYD has officially entered the Romanian market, marking another strategic step in the company’s European expansion. The Chinese automaker is introducing a diverse portfolio of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, including models equipped with its proprietary DM-i (Dual Mode – intelligent) technology.
Leading the lineup is the SEALION 7, a high-performance electric SUV that accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and delivers up to 502 km of range (WLTP), powered by BYD’s innovative Blade Battery. The model is priced at EUR 40,590 (VAT included), with a premium variant available at EUR 49,590.
Also joining the local offering is the SEAL U DM-i, a plug-in hybrid SUV utilizing BYD’s Super DM technology. It delivers a combined electric and petrol range exceeding 1,000 km. The SEAL U DM-i starts at EUR 34,890, rising to EUR 41,890 for the high-spec Design edition.
The more affordable ATTO 2 rounds out BYD’s SUV offerings. It integrates the Blade Battery and Cell-to-Body technology featured in higher-end models and includes a 1.5-liter gasoline engine. The entry price is EUR 22,590, with top-tier trims priced at EUR 25,590.
BYD’s only sedan available in Romania, the SEAL, mirrors the advanced engineering of the SEALION 7 but offers a more streamlined, aerodynamic design. It achieves a WLTP range of up to 570 km, with pricing from EUR 37,590 to EUR 42,590 depending on the version.
The automaker has opened its first Romanian showrooms in Bucharest through partnerships with Țiriac Auto and DAB Auto. BYD aims to scale its local presence, targeting more than 30 retail outlets nationwide by the end of 2025. Planned expansion cities include Ploiești, Brașov, Iași, Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, Constanța, Pitești, and Craiova.
Founded in 1995, BYD reached a historic milestone in 2023 as the first global automaker to surpass 10 million electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles produced. The company employs over 110,000 engineers and technicians, with a robust innovation pipeline supported by an average of 40 patent applications filed per day.
