HEINEKEN Brewery in Craiova marks 55 years and €35 million in investments

The HEINEKEN brewery in Craiova marked 55 years since its inauguration in 1970, celebrating more than half a century of continuous expansion and modernization. Over the last decade, the Dutch company has invested over €35 million in the site.

As a result of these investments, the brewery’s annual production capacity has increased more than fivefold, from 400,000 hl to 2,000,000 hl in 2025. The growth has been driven by sustained upgrades in technology, sustainability initiatives, and workforce development.

The most recent projects focus on improving energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact. A new generation of heat pumps is currently being installed, with completion scheduled for the end of 2025.

The Craiova facility, which entered HEINEKEN’s portfolio in 2003, now operates five packaging lines, for cans, non-returnable glass, returnable glass, PET and KEG, and works with over 160 local partners across production and logistics. The brewery employs more than 150 people.

HEINEKEN operates three breweries in Romania, Craiova, Miercurea Ciuc, Ungheni, and has a local workforce exceeding 1,000 employees. The company is one of the country’s leading beer producers, with 98% of its output dedicated to Romanian consumers and 88% of raw materials sourced locally.
